After B.Tech most of the students have the big question in mind aspiring for master’s degree- ‘MBA or M.Tech. The answer to this question is not so easy to achieve, as both of these professional degree programs have their own importance and brings placements scope.
To make best possible decision regarding MBA vs M.Tech, the aspiring students have to base their verdict on few factors like, from where they are doing engineering, what knowledge they have about MBA and future job prospects, what are their future career goals and which of these degree can help to achieve them.
The students usually in the final year of engineering graduation decide what would they further study, and accordingly prepare for entrance exams, for instance its GATE for M.Tech or CAT for MBA.
Now-a-days along with the degree program from where it is done also matters. Engineering students whether with M.Tech or B.Tech does not matter unless they get their masters degree from country’s finest engineering colleges like NITs, IITs and best ones at the state level. Students done B-Tech from reputed college and those with M.Tech from not so known college stand at the same position when it comes to get the job offers.
This factor matters if you are planning to take up a proper job after M.Tech, but for students who have different goals and some other reasons for doing M.Tech or MS factor may not be very significant. It may also involve planning for international studying for Ph.D or doing MS.
As far as MBA degree program is concerned, there is common perception that MBA can give your career a jump start and it is more beneficial if you are an engineering graduate. This is a pure myth. MBA graduates get same or even lesser salary compared to B.Tech or B.E graduate. Here again the B-school from where the MBA degree is achieved matters. If it’s from top B-schools like XLRI, IIM, Symbiosis or other top ones, the salary would be much higher. If you have not done your MBA from top 500 colleges than it hardly matters in job market whether you have MBA degree or not.
MBA or M.Tech both are unique and have totally different as to the career path it opens for the students. The choice can be made as per the interest of the students completing their undergraduate degree in engineering. MBA offers engineering students an opportunity to make a career in Business and Management field, whereas M.Tech make them learn more about engineering in depth.
Fields covered in M.Tech are as follows:
Research Academics Developments Engineering equipment
Primary Fields covered in MBA are as follows:

Students after reading above information should use it for their decision regarding PG studies only after considering their ‘area and preferred field of interest’. Students whose heart is on more on technical side can opt for M.Tech and those who love to work in industry and managements can choose MBA.
