In 2014, not only did the duration of the exam was increased by 30 minutes but also the test takers were given the liberty to attempt the test in any sectional order and move between the sections. Earlier, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation was the compulsory first section.

The number of sections in this exam is 2, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. As mentioned before, there are no sectional time limits and each section consists of 30 questions. As the name suggests, the Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation section questions will be on mathematics, arithmetic, geometry, mensuration, etc. Data Interpretation part includes questions on Graphs, Charts, etc. Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning questions are on English Language Skills and ability to comprehend.
Scoring Process
Negative marking is an important aspect of the CAT scoring process. Each question carries 3 marks. For each wrong answer, there is a penalty of 1 mark. No marks will be awarded or deducted on unattempted questions.
Mode of Exam
CAT is a computer based multiple choice objective type exam. Each question contains 4 options. Test takers have to select the correct option among the 4.
Last year onwards, Tata Consultancy Services is conducting the computer based CAT as Prometric, the erstwhile agency completed the 5 year contract. It is expected that the application process will start from the first week of August and the exam will be conducted in the second week of November, 2015. Unlike last year, CAT 2015 will be held in a single day window.
We are awaiting more clarity which will be disseminated only after 26 July 2015 after the official announcement. But one should prepare to see all sorts of surprises on the exam date as unexpected changes are considered to be the legacy of CAT.
