
CAT stands for Common Admission Test. It is a national level exam conducted as an MBA entrance exam. CAT is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management as a prerequisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs and other non-IIM institutions. It is a computer based test used to test the verbal ability and reasoning, reading comprehension, quantitative skills, data interpretation, analytical and logical reasoning, etc. of the students. In order to take admission for any MBA program, you need to appear for CAT as it is accepted in almost all MBA colleges. You CAT scores determine your eligibility for admission to the various management colleges in India.
Eligibility:
The candidate should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized university or institute with minimum 50% marks or in aggregate or equivalent CGPA. Those candidates who belong to SC/PWD should have 45% marks in graduation. The students appearing for final year graduation are also eligible to apply provided they complete the degree and obtain the cut-off percentage within the appropriate time.
Some of equivalent qualifications for Eligibility Criteria are:
B.E/B. Tech recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE
Qualification recognized by Association of Indian Universities New Delhi which is equal to a Bachelor’s Degree given by UGC recognized University/Institutions
Any case that is not mentioned above needs equivalency certificate to be produced from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi
CAT Application Fees:
CAT 2015 application fees vary on the basis of category. General and OBC category candidates have to pay Rs. 1600/-. On the other hand SC/ST/PWD candidates will have to pay Rs. 800/-.
Syllabus:
As mentioned above CAT is a computerized test which test students ability on the basis of verbal ability and reasoning, reading comprehension, quantitative skills, data interpretation, analytical and logical reasoning.
The details about what these topics cover are as follows:
Quantitative ability and data interpretation covers topics like mensuration, average number, number system, algebra, time and work, trigonometry, geometry, percentage, permutation combination, probability, quadratic equation, linear equation, profit and loss, etc.
Verbal ability and logical reasoning covers topics like antonyms, synonyms, sentence correction, idioms, clock, binary logic, calendar, seating arrangement, premises, reading comprehensions, assumption, conclusion, analogy, verbal reasoning, syllogisms, blood relation, linear and matrix arrangement, logical sequence, etc.
CAT time duration:
CAT 2015 time duration has been increased by 30 minutes – from 140 minutes (2 hours 20 minutes) to 170 minutes (2 hours 50 minutes).This is because the numbers of questions in quantitative ability and data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning sections have been increased from 30 to 50.

CAT is conducted by standard IIM authorities. So they decide all the important dates regarding CAT. These important dates range from CAT advertisement release date to result date including the exam date. The tentative dates for CAT are as follows:
