documents for job

It is said that the first impression is the last impression. After you complete your MBA and start preparing to apply to various companies for jobs, it is very important to leave your mark in every application. During the job interview the more you are prepared the more confident you are. The preparation not only includes your physical appearance and answering their questions but also being prepared with some key documents. Documents like your cover letter and resume play a vital role in helping you shine and get you a step closer to your dream job.

Important Documents That You Should Carry For a Job Interview after MBA

Cover Letter

A cover letter is the first document that a recruiter would read and decide whether you fit into their criteria for a future employee. So if you wish to make a good impression, a cover letter is the best place to start. Many B-schools conduct special seminars and workshops to teach students about writing the perfect cover letter.

A cover letter adds value to your resume and also gives you a chance to customize according to the company you are applying to. Always remember that a good cover letter is your entry into a company.

Resume

A resume is your passport to getting a job. When you have an impressive cover letter, the next step is to have an equally impressive resume. After completing your MBA you have multiple points that you can add to your resume. Adding your work experience during the various internships, projects that you did as part of your MBA course, papers presented at seminars or workshops attended, etc. add more value to your resume. A resume highlights your skills and capabilities and also works as a self-promotional document.

While going for a job interview always carry multiple copies of your resume. It is always a good idea to carry a well formatted resume instead of a handwritten one, also make it a point to put your signature and date on the resume so that it gives authenticity to it. Check your resume thoroughly to avoid any formatting and grammatical mistakes.

References

References are one of the best tools to market yourself. It always makes a great impact as it confirms your capability and experiences. A good reference can make it very easy for you to land a job at a reputed company. You can get references from the company where you did internship during MBA, your college professors or principal, or any other person whose reference is valued in the job market.

Learn how to turn your Internship into a Job Offer?

It is always a good practice to inform the people who have given you references about your job interviews. Many times companies do cross check your references and also see whether they are genuine. As well ensure you have added all the necessary information of your references such as name, title, contact number, email-id and connection between you and your reference. E.g.: previous boss, client, student, etc.

Portfolio of Work

A portfolio is helpful in showcasing your work. A work portfolio not only sets job seekers apart from the competition, but also does a better job of relaying why you may be right for the job by providing solid evidence as opposed to beating around the bush about it. You can always say you accomplished something, but if you can show it, you’ll be in a better position to land the job.

Sometimes, it’s all about what you’re working on now. Work portfolios have the ability to share your current goals, as well as the progress you’ve made. It isn’t necessary that you have a portfolio of work immediately completing your MBA, but it is always a benefit if you have one.

Identification Documents

Any document such as driving license, passport, Aadhar card, etc. which reveals your picture can be used as identification proof. Companies need these documents for verification. So it is always best to carry them with you to the job interview. Carrying your passport sized photographs is also necessary because you might need to attach it with the forms provided at the companies before your interview.

Apart from the 5 important documents mentioned above, additional documents such as your score cards, extra-curricular activities’ certificates, and other documents that show your accomplishments should also be carried. But present these documents only when you are asked for them.

Showing up at interviews with proper documents will not only boost your confidence but also help you avoid last minute panic.

Life will never give you a second chance to revise your first impression so go out and put your best foot forward and get your dream job!
